Tj was born in the hardworking
city of Laura, Mississippi to loving and devout Baptist parents. Her
father, a steel plant worker, moved his young family to Illinois
for better economic opportunities, and finally settled them
in Houston when Tj was 10 years old. |
| Although her family’s travels allowed her
to tour the American landscape, District 18 would
be Tj’s backyard for decades to come. A proud
product of the Houston Independent School District,
Tj received her diploma from Booker T. Washington
High School, and went on to achieve a Bachelor of
Fine Arts from Texas Southern University. |
